Smokefree is ALL about public health

Comment 14th July 2010

Smokefree legisltation should remain untouched. It has been a fantastic success (proven by evidence) in the field of public health. The Law was designed to protect workers and others who are exposed to second hand smoke. If anybody does not believe that second hand smoke is dangerous, look up the evidence.

Why does this matter?

It has been a fantastic success (proven by evidence) in the field of public health. The Law was designed to protect workers and others who are exposed to second hand smoke. If anybody does not believe that second hand smoke is dangerous, again look up the evidence.

I am an Environmental Health Practitioner and I can say first hand that this legisltation has been so easy to introduce and has been accepted by 99.9% of businesses in my area. It is not an issue for them.

Please do not believe the factions out there who talk about effective ventilation, pubs closing, etc. We had all of this back in 2006 and in the main it was largely unfounded.

Just think if you were asked to work with a chemical that contained carcinogens and many other harmful substances, you would soon object. So have a mind for the bar worker, the Club Manager or the steward in the 'ventilated' smoking room.

If we want to get rid of some useless legisaltion, I could reel off tens of food safety & H & S laws that achieve very little …… in complete contrast to the smokefree legisltation.
