Stop ridiculous sickness policies at work.

Comment 20th July 2010

As someone with a pre-existing medical condition, I am one of the unfortunate souls who feels penalized when I get sick at work. Even when, I had an operation to ensure I had less time off work, I was still placed on the sickness monitoring scheme, which could mean the end of my job, if the worst came to the worst. There are a lot of employees in different work places who have to jump through hoops to keep their jobs and if one is genuinely sick, one is automaautomaticallyd on one of these monitoring schemes.

It does not encourage a good working environment, there must be a better way to sort out the genuine folk from the fakes, but the system as it stands is unfair and makes life harder than it already is.

Stop pennilsing folk who  have to have an operation as nobody asks to go to hospital, but if it is necessary then it must be done. Revise the Disability Discrimination Act to allow for long term conditions, because at the moment it is a catch 22. Also  consider turning off heating in the spring and summer, because that alone can make people ill and why not put air conditioning in all work places? Give bonuses to people who do not go sick, but do it in a nice way and reward people for their hard work and effort.

Why does this matter?

It would probably boost morale in this modern environment. It might also protect people from losing their jobs in an unfair manner, because nobody can help being ill.
