Stop the conviction of motorists by Laser (Lidar) based speed enforcement

Comment 2nd July 2010

Stop the conviction of motorists based soley on the evidence of Laser (Lidar) based speed enforcement devices.

Why does this matter?

Both Scientific and field testing has shown that Laser (Lidar) based speed enforcement devices as used by the police and in speed camera vans cannot be trusted to give accurate readings in many circumstances.

A conviction for speeding should not be upheld if the evidence was obtained only from Laser (Lidar) based speed enforcement devices.

A second method should be used to corroborate the evidence for example speed detectors laid in the roads surface linked to speed detection equipment.
