The Great in Britain

Comment 8th July 2010

The Great in Britain is a community collaboration project designed to harness professional services within each community in Britain to provide those services to members of that community with the aim of:

  1. Generating revenue for local businesses – by encouraging self employment, national standards and training and employment of local candidates.
  2. Generating services that enable other members of the community to seek and gain employment – in areas like Healthcare, transportation, technology, childcare, after-school support and other services that otherwise restricts a person from seeking employment.
  3. Business incubation for the provision of services – re-using existing facilities within each community, the project will be able to take individuals and their skills and match then with requirements for such serv

    1. Generating revenue for local businesses – by encouraging self employment, national standards and training and employment of local candidates.
    2. Generating services that enable other members of the community to seek and gain employment– in areas like Healthcare, transportation, technology, childcare, after-school support and other services that otherwise restricts a person from seeking employment.
    3. Business incubation for the provision of services– re-using existing facilities within each community, the project will be able to take individuals and their skills and match then with requirements for such services within the community.
    4. Developing Intellectual Property Rights from ordinary skill sets – with dedicated IPR professionals to assess IPR values from skills, this will generate other revenue streams that can be exported to other regions thereby creating a natural growth and expansion plan inherently built into the system.

The project is designed to be web based portal activated with the support of each council in the UK, as majority of professionals may be losing their employment, this project would provide the catalyst for engaging in revenue generating schemes.

Other benefits – as the platform will contain several requests for services that can be matched with skills for the services that are other areas that can be adopted for the provisioning of the services:

    1. Probation service– as part of the early intervention for the prevention of crime, the project will be able to take referrals from the probation services across each council and provide the platform to convert the talent of the individual into a revenue generating and sustainable service. the same can be applied to offender rehabilitation
    2. Schools – the IPR service would be able to assist schools in deprived community to register IPRs of the student and in return provide tangible opportunities from agents seeking the IPR. Common areas like Art, Dance, sports, Music, design and others where majority of the kids have an interest would be available for the students to benefit from as a means of changing their life cycle of re-offending or direct them into areas where they can aim for a goal.
    3. Reusing current facilities– JobcentrePlus, positive futures, connexions and other Government initiatives will be able to integrate with the program to provide real solutions to the subjects.
    4. Training and development– training can be provided across all the services created across each community to ensure their is a minimum standard that is adhered to and monitored

Why does this matter?

The projects aim is to create a sustainable recurring revenue streams for individuals with skills and talents that can be of benefit to others.

Following the principle of supply and demand, the idea will allow demands to be registered in each community and for those with the talent or skill set to supply the demand.

A typical example, an Accountant who has been in full time employment suddenly finds out that they are going to be made redundant, with The Great in Britain project, the accountant can register their services online and see the list of local businesses or individuals who are interested his or her services. He/She will be able to provide his services via a secure online service and work from home and deliver his services to the clients. As he/she expands their service there will be the need to train and take on new staff thereby creating further employment. Local businesses will be able to benefit from his/her skill at a discounted rate and he/she would have transitioned from redundancy to private employment seamlessly.

IPR is one area that is often regarded as a complex area and therefore vast majority of the population fail to benefit from the potential. A typical example is that of a DIY specialist or Handyman who has skills in fixing items around the house. His IPR exist in creating Know-hows either in the form of documents or videos, these can be sold online generating multiple revenue streams apart from his main job. The difference The Great in Britain aims to achieve is to take away the complexity and provide the template that simply awaits a talent to fill in the gap, the channel to market is set and the associated IPR protection needed.

In the current state of doom and gloom, communities need a platform that can boost their confidence, give them a window to gain a better  chance in life and to fight for a better economic freedom. The Great in Britain aims to achieve this by re-using current services and Government structures.
