Waste regulations for community pharmacy are over-burdensome

Comment 4th August 2010

The regulations controlling medicines waste should be simplified and the process of doing this needs to involve the pharmacy sector so that sensible and workable solutions are developed.

Why does this matter?

The regulations governing the collection and disposal of waste from community pharmacies is becoming more and more burdensome and in effect is turning pharmacy into a waste processing site!

Community pharmacy does a very important job in managing waste – the majority of it comes from patients and would comprise unused or out of date medicines.
