Why are landlords taking so much of taxpayers money?

Comment 18th July 2010

I don't think this fits in here but it is an important issue. The Govt should consider whether it is ethical for a 'property tycoon' to be charging people £790 per week to pay for the use of a small house. . The figure was taken from the article below:

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1295601/Somali-refugee-given-2-1million-taxpayer-funded-house-owed-7-000-rent-previous-home.html

£790 should be the amount of a monthly mortgage payment. and not one week's rent.

Why does this matter?

It could save a lot of taxpayers' hard earned money to cap the amount of rent that landlords can charge. Private properties are often in very poor condition and tenants are often treated very poorly. There must be a better way to house people.
