ABOLISH BRITISH FILM CLASSIFICATION BOARD

I am not against giving films, videos etc age guidance as there are on toys, but there should be no official censorship body.

Why does this idea matter?

This is a statutory censorship body which offends against the right to free speech.

This is a fantastic idea. I am consistently disgusted by the patronising, authoritarian approach to censorship displayed by the BBFC. It is utterly redundant, particularly in a world were extreme violence and pornography can be viewed on the internet by anyone. A 14-year old not allowed in to see Notting Hill could easily go back home to watch videos of executions or bestiality. Books too are not censored – apparently the government believes that only hearing swear words in a film will corrupt young minds, but that reading them is harmless. The freedom of people to watch what they want is disregarded because the BBFC think they know what’s best for everyone. And that’s why they should fuck off.
