Allow mature apprentices to opt out of the higher rate of the minimum wage. please read all below before leaving a comment.

Why is this idea important?

Employers in certain sectors cannot afford to take on an older apprentice even when they are willing to train for less than the min wage. I realise that the Min wage is important and is welcomed however it is an obstacle when it comes to older apprentices. I know for a fact that some people would rather learn skills and opt out for the chance to start or either change their carreer. Let the person decide for themselves instead of making it law. The opt out rate should be only form the duration of the apprenticeship.As it stands now the apprentice is exempt form the first year after the age of 19 but most apprenticeships last a lot longer. My idea would allow them the work for the lower rate for the duration of the apprenticeship.
