Welfare for Work.

What has happened to the Conservatives 2008 policy of " Welfare for Work"? This was based on an American system, as I recall. Surely, now is the time to bring the proposal into actuality!

This would be a good way to stop teenagers going straight on the dole from school and making the long term unemployed contribute to our economy.

In addittion, teenage Mothers should be made to care for each others children( at nursery centres)  allowing them to go out and get part time jobs.

National Service need not mean Army, Navy or Airforce.

Some people have suggested bringing back National Service, for youngsters! Maybe the service could be modified to include Hospitals, Sports venues, Highways, National Parks etc etc.

National Service could become a form of paid work experience. Not only would it help get youngsters off the dole, it would help get the Country back on its feet.

Dept of Transport Safer Roads Initiative.

It appears to be the "Safer Roads Initiative", introduced by the Department of Transport, that has resulted in all the 40/50 MPH speed restrictions on Rural Main Roads! These roads previously had a National Speed limit of 60 MPH.

This may be a good policy on these Rural Main Roads but if there are alternative routes without restrictions, frustrated motorists are using these in preference!

Therefore, even narrower country lanes, which still have the National speed limit are becoming the prefered route! Surely, these narrow country lanes, should have lower speed limits than their neighbouring Main roads?

It would be better if Main Rural roads had a 50 MPH speed limit and the narrow lanes a 40 MPH speed limit. Then both types of rural roads would be safer!

Teenage Scrapheap Challenge Centres.

This is an idea which could take disruptive teenagers off the streets, based on the TV program Scrapheap Challenge.

This would be a club supervised by persons with engineering or mechanical backgrounds, who would teach and help teenagers make things like Go Karts, Boats or such like out of Junk left at Council tips.

The planning law that prevents affordable village homes.

Why am I prevented from dividing my 5 bedroomed village home, which is half a mile from the curtailage of the Village?  If my home was half a mile nearer the village there wouldnt be a problem!

The house and garden are too big, now my family have left home but I love my home and my garden, why should I sell the whole house? The sensible option would be to divide into two flats or make two semi detached homes but planning law prevents this. The stupid part of this law is, if the property was a pair of  semi detached homes I could apply to make one large house and this would be approved!

Community Buses.

Villages and large estates, should be provided with a bus exclusively for their own use. It could be mainly used for ferrying residents to the nearest town, station, school and back home, but could also be used for leisure activities. For instance, if there was a pub run it would save drink driving; if there was a nightclub run it would prevent hoons causing havoc on the streets. Kids and Oaps could also be taken to the local leisure centre, the options are endless.

Shared Care, For Frail Elderly.

The government should organize care homes, in which relatives could actively contribute to their elderly relations and other the other residents care.  This could be achieved by allowing the relatives carry out  Non Medical tasks. Such as cleaning, food preparation, laundry, shopping, transport, odd jobs, gardening, reception etc etc. their contribution could then be used to reduce the high cost of their relatives care. It would also ensure that the residents were cared for properly. The government would only be responsible for the Nursing care, if this suggestion was set up properly.

Comprehensive hospital check ups for the elderly.

Multiple check ups could be carried out in one comprehensive visit. So many elderly people have several ailments such as heart, diabetes, hearing, eye problems, mobility, bladder and bowel, to name just a few. These entail several 6 monthly check ups. All at different times and possibly at different hospitals.

Surely, these could be carried out by a team of Doctors over one day, something similar to the  Schools Parents evenings, or a cars MOT.

Lanes should have lower speed limits than main roads.

Highways appear to have a strategy of effectively moving the problem of speeding traffic from main roads, to lanes and minor roads, in the vicinity! This is achieved by reducing the speed limit of the main road. to 40/50 mph, while leaving the alternative minor road route at 60mph.

This practice is unacceptable and should be stopped.

While the mandate, that there has to be 2 fatal crashes on a road, before a lower speed limit is imposed, is being used as an excuse for inaction, by Highways.
