Clarify Drink/Drive Alcohol Limits

Make the limit Zero.  Everyone will know where they stand. If you drink, you don't drive.

I'm no misery guts and I'm not anti-driving.  I like a drink and I like to drive.  I just keep the two activities apart.

Declare a Republic

Republics define the roles and rights of their citizens, monarchies rely on notions of subservience and the one-way loyalty of subjects.

We should have the right to decide who should be our Head of State; it should not be dictated by accident of birth. The people of these lands are grown up enough to make that choice for themselves.

Replace Freehold with Ownership

Currently Freehold on land or property gives the 'owner' certain rights, but true ownership lies with the crown.

I think it's time to give every Englishman, and Scotsman, Welshman, Irishman, and of course women,  the right to actually own their own proporty.

Newspapers : Right of Redress

My idea is that whenever a newspaper has been shown to have printed a falsehood about a person it should print a full retraction and apology as the main story on its front page. An apology buried on a inside page does not balance a front page spread making false accusations and destroying a person reputation.

The Press Complains Commission should be taken out of the hands of the Press Industry and should consider such complaints having the authority to order the redress I have described.

Give Right to Correct on all data held under the Data Protection Act

More information about people is held by more organisation than ever before.  Some of these organisations are public, some are private companies.

My idea is that if you find, and you should already have full access to information held about you, that the information they hold is false you should have the right to correct it.

Scrap Farm Subsidies

Farm Subsidies hark back to the era just after the war when there were severe food shortages.  We no longer live in that world and farm subsidies are no longer needed.

They also cost Billions each year that could be saved.

Open Public Accounts

That all accounts of public finances should operate on an 'Open Book' policy.  This would enable any and all of us to know where our money is going and to whom it is being paid.  It would also enable competitive undercutting which would reduce public expenditure in the future.

National Sporting and Cultural Events

It should no longer be possible for a private company, which may be owned and operated by foreign nationals, to restrict the inalienable right of British people to view National Sporting and Cultural Events and Free to Air Television.

MPs Second Jobs

Being an MP should be a full time job.  However, a great number of our MPs feel the need to hold a vast range of additional positions, directorships and consultancies.

I think if an MP wants a second job it should be chosen for him or her by their constituents. The MP may prefer to be a non-executive director of an arms company on £250K per annum but their constituents may consider that more insight into how they live could be offered by working in a care home for the elderly on minimum wage, emptying their bins or dealing with the aftermath of road traffic accidents.

Let the people decide.

Leave the CAP (Common Argicultural Policy)

The CAP eats up half our EU contribution.  For this we get, well nothing really, but farmers get huge subsidies to not grow stuff which is in surplus.

The effect of the CAP is that farmers have an incentive to not improve their productivity, as it paid on acreage the more land your own the more subsidy you receive, so the richer get more.  It reduces the retail price of food and so undercut growers in the third world, including the Commonwealth, and the same time as distorting the market.
