Dont let Jack Straw or other go to the American Libyan Enquiry

America has given a date and time for Jack Straw to address questions on the above. In some media reports it states he has been `summoned` and in others `invited`.

Why is this important – Well, my main reason is that when British soldiers were killed by American Air Force Jets and the Coroner wanted the pilots to testify in his court, the USA refused to send them (and this was important for bringing closure to relatives) – and these are our allies.

Add to this the one way extradition arrangements with America and now David Cameron stating that Britain was the 'junior partner' to the USA  from 1940 in WWII; lack of acknowledgement in the USA about the part American firms have played in the oil leak (I dont recall America doing the decent thing in Bhopal)  – then one has to question why we are happy to remain subservient to Americas demands.

Follow through on repealing 08 Numbers used by GP Practices

GPs in this country are the highest paid in Europe. On top of this the recently announced changes, I believe, may be exploited by GPs to increase their earnings at taxpayers expense even further if adequate safeguards are not put in place.

Why is it then that the previous govt, with support from both the Conservatives and Lib Dems, proposed to outlaw GP Practices using 08 numbers to increase the practices profits at the expense of its patients. I popped into my practice to make an appointment and was told to ring up in the morning using an 08 number. It cannot be right or just that the highest paid GPs in Europe continue to rip off the elderly,  pensioned, disabled and less fortunate in this manner. Honour the original proposal to ban this practice and protect those that are at their most vulnerable – lets be honest the GP practices that continue doing this do not have their patients interests above their own self interest.

stop s43 becoming the new s44 Terrorism laws

Todays announcement by the government on interim changes for section 44 of the Terrorism Act are to be warmly welcomed. As of now photographers cannot be stopped and searched under section 44 (unless they are in a vehicle at the time).

I know that this is pre-emptive but let us not have s43 powers of stop and search take over because the police cannot use s43.

If you think this is an over reaction then bear in mind that 16 yr old Jules Mattsson who was harassed and held in Romford under s44 was held yesterday under s43 when photographing a parade whom he had permission from the supervisor to so (though no permission was necessary).

I dont want automated cold call telephone calls

Whilst on this site I have received yet another automated telephone message (about debt recovery). I have now received 3 of these in the past 48 hours.  STOP IT – IT IS INTRUSIVE

I think it amounts to harassment and impacts on my right to privacy – for gods sake one of these messages was around 6.00pm in the evening – GO AWAY.

I  have stated to a couple of companies that I do not want them but they still keep coming.

Higher standards of Policing demonstrations/protests

I have never been involved in demonstrations (yet) but am amazed at the amount of evidence (eg you tube) of police assaulting and intimidating people such as grabbing cameras or worse charging into peaceful crowds and nothing happening to the police officers involved. I can guarantee that within 30 min of watching you tube you will see police breaking the law and the demonstrator ending up being arrested and charged on fictitious evidence – this lowers the publics tolerance levels towards both government and the police. The police should not lie to the public about whether they can photograph in a public space and it should be explained they have the right not to give personal details etc (s44 should now be revoked due to echr).

In summary the police should be working to higher standards and therefore if they use aggressive or intimidating tactics, lie or mislead the public about their rights then justice should definitely be seen to be done to restore faith in democracy and individual rights. My proposal is that it become easier to disciplne, investigate and make public the outcome of police officers abusing their powers  – clearly it does not happen now in a lot of cases.
