All meat must be halal say Harrow council – NO TO THIS RULING

7% are muslims in Harrow borough and the council has decided that only halal will be served in their 52 primary schools. This is unacceptable for the majority and the council must change this ruling.

Halal should never be inflicted on anyone in public life – schools, NHS etc

Restore stolen goods to owners

Currently if theives are caught with stolen goods they just say those goods were bought from someone – and voila! the theives get to keep the stolen goods. Make sure all stolen goods, once described by the victim of theft, are returned.

Restore playing fields for schools

A host of problems may be solved by resoring playing fields for schools.

– children need open green space not only for regular games lessons but also for the simple pleasure of having free time in a green space

– after school hours and on weekends these areas should be used for after school competitive games. This will teach children team spirit and co-working and it will keep them off the streets

– health and safety rules must be trimmed so that after school games clubs can be conducted in a sufficiently safe manner. If necessary parents and children could be required to sign forms stating that injuries in the course of playing in the fields will be considered normal and will not be open to legal redress. Those parents and children who wish to remain totally 'safe' and who do not sign this document will not have access to the playing fields

– this idea could be linked up to the Olympic legacy for the UK

GPs pay must be cut

The average salary of a GP in Britain is £106,000. This makes the GPs the highest-paid family doctors in the world.

There is no sense at all to this over-payment. Substantial cuts to their salaries must take place.

Cuts in Council Budgets

Prior to councils cutting essential services the following should be implented:

i) all council employees on salaries of £65,000 or more to have salary reduced by 10%

ii) no pay rises in council salaries for 2 years. Pay rises thereafter to reflect inflation only if a recovery from the credit crisis is in place.

iii)  no bonus payments – ever

iv) pensions to reflect private sector

Stop overpaid council employees appearing on TV saying how terrible cuts to services are going to have to be put in place. I am heartily fed up with the majority of my council tax payments being used to pay council gold plated pensions. Sort this out!

Reduce length of ‘soft’ university courses

All 'soft' university courses extending more than 3 years (including 'on the job experience') should be reviewed for

i) actual face to face student – teacher teaching time

ii) amount of free time students get during university term time. There should not be much or any of this.

There are many students who have no intention of ever paying back their student fees and they are stating this intention quite openly.

Stop using university as a method of keeping people off the dole queue

There are students on 4 year courses at Birmingham Conservatoire. Parents of these students don't understand why these 4 years are full of lots of time off – and neither do I.

NHS should not be free to health tourists

The NHS is a key and much loved aspect of British life. The aging population, higher population and increasing healthcare expectations mean that NHS costs are increasing at an unsustainable rate.

Improvement in patient outcomes is essential. In too many instances NHS diagnosis and treatment protocols lag behind those in Europe and are far behind global gold standards. The people of this nation deserve better healthcare and the healthcare professionals of this nation deserve the right to be able to implement best practice for their patients.

Just as there is re-ordering of priorities in welfare, education, housing etc ., there is a need for realigning NHS objectives and consolidating NHS functions for the improved health status of this nation.

A new method of charging health tourists must be implemented. The old system of providing free care (e.g. delivery of babies & extensive maternity care) and then hoping to be paid at a later date is complete nonsense in this day and age. Yes the NHS must be free at point of delivery for those who have a right here. No the NHS must not be free at the point of delivery for people of all other nations. This country and it's tax payers cannot be expected to provide free healthcare to all visitors.

Set up a committee of healthcare workers, accountants and managers to come up with a system that can (i) identify those who should not be due free NHS care, (ii) rules for acute vs chronic vs maternity treatment of those not due free NHS care, (iii)  efficient credit card 'on the spot' payment collection.
