Moving to a European form of education

The current system in the UK of educating children is failing and will continue to fail for a long time as we are no longer educating!

The system means that we are producing people who by the time they leave primary to go to secondary school are unable to read, write or do basic numeracy tasks. The proliferation of mentors and teaching assistants has not helped – if anything, they have hindered. TAs require no formal qualifications or training, the same applies to mentors yet can earn in excess of a qualified teacher who has being working for 4 years and is highly qualified.

The EU system (such as used in Germany) is simple. Until a child can do simple maths, pass a reading and writing test, plus sit still for about 25 mins, they're not allowed out of Kindergarten – at this stages, they are all assessed by an educational psychologist to help identify ADD etc). If they do not pass the end of year targets, they remain behind a year.

Why is this idea important?

The right to reverse engineer “abandonware”

There is a large amount of software for older machines which could be of great use. The company behind it has either gone under or abandoned the software completely (so called "abandonware")

With changes in operating system versions, the software no longer operates but current UK laws make it illegal to reverse engineer the software and bring it back to life.

I am not for one second advocating current software be applied to this or that the ownership of the software change from the original author to the person who reverse engineers and keeps the software running.

Removal of speed camera signs without speed cameras

These are a complete waste of space and money. There are large chunks of the country with these signs and no cameras. If nothing else, it's false advertising!

Changing the way fuel and cars are taxed

The current system of taxing petroleum fuels is costing the average motorist too much and needs to be changed with levels of duty reduced to that of the average across the EU.

An alternative to that is to remove the road fund licence for cars and motorcycles as the tax from fuel more than makes up for the road fund licences

Revision of the Digital Economy law (2010)

Revisiting this very rushed law which doesn't understand the technology.

I have two main points on this.

1. The forcing of ISPs to give information

2. The prosecution of offenders
