Ongoing Competency in Certificates of Technical Competency

Dear Sir,

Firstly I would like to thank you for the opportunity to submit an idea.  This is a refreshing idea from the new coalition government.

I would like to bring to your attention an item of increased legislation that is of little or no use, and are of considerable cost to local business.

The item in question is that of Ongoing Competency in Certificates of Technical Competency.   These certificates were awarded to people who hand trained and shown a level deemed to be to such a standard that they were worthy of this professional qualification.  The training and assessment for the professional qualification was considerable and as such the Environment Agency told us that this qualification was for life.  It was also necessary to obtain this to continue operating any Waste Handling Facility.  Recently however they have told us that we must undergo further training and assessment to continue any work in this area.  We must now take a multi-choice test to ensure that we are still technically competent.  Firstly I find this an insult to the year of work it took for me to past and obtain this qualification and secondly I find it to be of little or no use in ensuring that standards are being met.

Why is this idea important?

Ofcom and TV Censorship

Ofcom have no problem with real sex as long as it’s for art sake or for educational reasons. I have seen medical programs and art that is very graphic. The reason that this is permitted for transmission is because it’s not for titillation value. Do they think that the young children they are trying to protect understand that these images are educational? That the camera showing sexual intercourse to see how it works is educational? There is no way that a child understands these things.  And then they have at the same time stopped people from viewing anything of a strong sexual nature on TV channels that were designed for this purpose.   These channels are pin protected unlike the art and education channel that are showing far stronger material.

So let’s see what Ofcom have managed to do:

Provide very hard nudity and sexual content to almost all in the name of art. Show any and almost every act of sex on TV to all in the name of education. And prevent anyone who would like to view sex for sex sake from viewing it. The standards they have set are just wrong.

Drivers CPC

Dear Sir,

Firstly I would like to thank you for the opportunity to submit an idea.  This is a refreshing idea from the new coalition government.

I would like to bring to your attention an item of increased legislation that is of little or no use, and are of considerable cost to local business.

The item is that of Driver CPC’s.

Recently the Government has introduced a new requirement for HGV drivers to undergo 5 days of training over the next 5 years.  This is required for them to obtain drivers CPC.  Without the drivers CPC the driver will no longer be able to work as a HGV driver.  There is no exam at the end of the training and could not be as a considerable quantity of the drivers attending these courses do not have English as their first language.  I would also like to point out that if these driver’s are not to the correct standard to past their test in the first place why are we giving them a HGV licence.  This ongoing assessment is of little or no use as it does not improve in any way the driver’s ability to drive.  It is however of considerable cost in inconvenience to business.
