About ten years ago, the law was changed so that category D1 is no longer included on the standrad driving licence.  One of the effects of this is to impose restrictions on teachers being able to drive minibuses.  The only way for a young teacher to be able to drive a minibus big enough for a rugby team is for them to take a PSV course and test.  This is expensive and time consuming – and allows you to drive a bus!  It is already difficult to take children out of school because of the necessary paperwork and this just imposes an additional restriction.

Why is this idea important?

It supports outdoors education and the diversity of students' experiences at school.  In particualr, PE fixtures have been adversely affected.
