Replace Job Seekers Allowance from cash to voucher system

Instead of paying the unemployed a job seekers allowance cash payment of £50 or £60 a week, we should operate a voucher system or moving forward a card instead.  This could be made up along the following lines:-

Vouchers/credits for a local supermarket

Vouchers/credits for a mobile phone provider

Vouchers/credits to spend in local shops.

Vouchers/credits for transport purposes

A small cash amount each week.

Supermarkets could compete for the right to sell vouchers to the Government at reduced rates; the saving could be passed on to the unemployed by increasing the amount of vouchers provided.

Vouchers should prohibit or at least limit the purchase of alcohol and tobacco.

Open up the BBC’s archives

Any BBC programme, 10 years or older, should be freely available on the BBC website to stream and/or download, with no DRM. Any licence should be in the form of copyleft i.e. you can copy, share, modify, distort, clip or whatever any programme on there. The only restriction should be that those who make use of the BBC's content in this way simply state where they got the content from. The internet is not total anarchy, so most people would be happy to give the BBC credit.

Allow established illegal immigrants a chance to “buy” their citizenship

There are many illegal immigrants who have entered the UK and been living invisibly and working on the black economy because they do not have official documents. I believe there should be an amnesty window, and those who are living underground as it were, could buy their citizenship by paying a very large fine for the illegal entry, which could be spread over some years like the student loan system. As someone with the status of a probationary immigrant, they would be allowed to work legally and contribute to the economy, and also pay a higher tax rate for a while to compensate for the years they could not pay tax, as we have no way of knowing or proving what they earned or how they survived during the time they were invisible.

The probationary citizen period would end when the fine was totally paid off. I would suggest the figure shoudl be around 12-15,000 per person. Once they are working legally, deductions could be made at source at a rate that is deemed managable so they do not suffer hardship, or the fine scheme be too offputting.

End Empty property tax

At the current time Council Tax is charged on empty property after the property has been un occupied for six months – subject to a couple of exceptions. This is a flawed Law based on flawed logic.

Where did the last Government feel that the “income” was going to come from to pay the Council Tax?

If the property is part of a large portfolio then maybe some of the rental income from other property will support the empty property but this means there will be less Corporation Tax paid on the bulk of the Portfolio.

If on the other hand the property is the only “buy to let” property owned by an individual in an effort to “save” for a pension where is the income going to come from to pay this tax? It will come from the “taxed” salary of the owner as he has no tenant to pay the Council Tax. This is such a disincentive to his efforts to save he will get out of the market as soon as he can. We try to help ourselves and the nation and we are beaten over the head at every turn.

Burn this mad tax now.

Make drinks manufacturers and fast food chains pay for litter

I only have to walk a few yards before I find cans and cartons in the road and on the pavement. It is impossible to enforce litter laws when object are thrown from cars etc. My suggestion would be to charge a fee for any items found directly by council workers back to the manufacturer/originator. If the manufaturer is being hit for the actionsof their customers, then they will pass on the cost by increasing the price of the item.Hopefully, they would also spend a bit more time encouraging their customers to dispose of the rubbish in a responsible manner.

Stop the freezing of old age pensions

Successive governments have frozen the pensions of those pensioners who choose to retire in some of the Commonwealth countries whereas pensioners living in the Europe, the USA and the Philippines for example benefit from the annual uprating. This is a discriminatory policy which is seriously affecting many pensioners who are now living in poverty having had no pension increase for 20 or 30 yrs or more. These people worked all of their lives paying their taxes and National Insurance  and are now being denied through a policy which has no logic. This also affects the freedom of future pensioners who have to decide whether to go to a frozen country to be with their family or stay in the UK to get the annual increases,        No consideration is given to the fact that these pensioners are not costing the NHS, do not get winter heating allowance or Christmas bonus or any other benefit which saves the government money but they say that they cannot afford to pay for it whilst getting very generous pensions themselves paid for by the taxpayer. Most of these are ex-servicemen, either full time or National service who spent time away from family and were there in times of conflict only to be abandoned when reaching retirement.  Disgraceful, unjust, seriously dishonest and not the way of the British who always play the game unless it affects pensioners it seems.

Limit compensation claims by people who have committed a crime

When someone has been found guilty of committing a crime (either civil or criminal) they should not be able to claim subsequently for personal or financial compensation or injury from those they committed the act against whilst that act was taking place.

Assuming the victim acted with reasonable force (the judge will decide) in defending his/her self or property, the court should decree that the guilty party shall not make any further claim related to that case against the victim through any court or institution.

No Council Housing For Immigrants.

I live in a council house on a large estate in Wakefield. My two children who have grown up & left home to start a family & new life both live 10 miles away & both in the opposite direction as they cannot get a council house near me & the rest of thier family and friends for app 6 or 7 years.

Yet this estate is full of immigrants with no family ties to this estate or area.

In my oppinion this not only drives families apart but puts extra pressure on them too when grandparents like myself need to babysit the grandchildren whilst the parents work, which mine do.

Killing a pheasant by car on road

If someone driving accidently kills a pheasant on the road, I understand that the person behind in the following car can claim it but not the driver who killed it.  If this is so, then this is nonsense.

Needs to be repealed.

Make tinted motorcycle helmet visors legal

Law says its illegal to wear a tinted visor on motorcycle helmet but not illegal to wear sun glasses under the helmet. Hello nanny state wakey wakey you would prefer us to be blinded by strong sun and crash than have the common sense NOT to wear a tinted visor when the sun goes down. And before anyone says it you can't always get sun glasses on, when wearing a helmet. I know I just broke an expensive pair of Oakleys trying. We can legally wear our sun glases when the sun goes down but most bikers with a little wit would not ride with sun glasses on in the dark. Ok some dim wits will ride with tinted visors in the dark but why punish the many because of the few. What about cars with tinted windows driving in the dark? And yes I know there is a limit to their level of tint to front and front sides but what about seeing out the back at night? If caught out by poor visibillity while wearing a tinted visor you can always open your visor slightly to assist your view. Yes I know you stand a chance of being hit by a fly but many times in heavy rain even with a clear visor you have to open your visor because the water attached to the visor leaves you blinded. (thought—-maybe we should have a law that requires visor wipers)

Instant Deportation of Non British Persons Who Commit Any Crime

Any individual of any age or sex who is not born in the UK should be instantly deported if proven guilty of commiting ANY crime, even if it means the return to a country where they may suffer or die.

Licensed smoking pubs

Public houses could be allowed to apply for a smoking licence – for a fee. The licence to be granted subject to the provision of a separate, enclosed smoking area serviced by air conditioners/washers. Standards for the performance of the air con/washers would be set (in a similiar fashion to car emissions ratings) and any failure to meet the required level would result in a hefty fine and possible loss of licence.

Staff for the area are either to be smokers or non-smokers, who are not bothered by smoking.  These staff would be required to sign a voluntary statement to the effect that they are prepared to work in the licenced areas, so long as the air purity meets requiements.

No smoking to be allowed in 'no smoking' areas and dining areas.

Remove the ambiguity re bank holiday use of bus lanes

Please end the flexibility that allows local authorities to enforce bus lane restrictions that apply "Monday to Friday" on bank holidays.

(I drove in a bus lane on Bank Holiday Monday solely becuase the restriction only applied Monday to Friday and thus, so far as I was concerned, not on Sundays).

Allowing low impact development on agricultural land

There are thousands of people in the UK who would like to farm there own land but cannot afford the half million £s needed for a farm with accommodation. The planning laws in this area are highly outdated and make it virtually impossible to build up new small farms from bare land.

The countryside is now only for big agribusiness and a playground for the rich, so there is very little new enterprise in small scale agriculture, which is badly needed.

Because of the low incomes involved it is impossible to start up a small agricultural business and pay rent/mortgage on a separate home.

Small, low impact and easily removable dwellings should be allowed while (and only WHILE) the land is being used for agriculture, either business or self sufficiency, which then often grows into small business by selling surplus, providing good local produce, and providing a fulfilling employment in the countryside, which surely is good for everyone.

The British countryside has got to let go if its NIMBY attitude, or it will end up a stale, gated community.

Restore the right to own Firearms

The Government always, it seems, expects the nation to trust it.  Why does it not reciprocate and prove it trusts the people of Great Britain.

Banning ownership and legitimate use of Firearms has NO impact on preventing crime.  It's an assault on personnel liberty and Hypocrisy of the highest order.

In time of War and need, the people are called to arms to defend this great Nation. Without it's people , this country would be no more.

The Government then Trusts it's Soldiers, Sailors and Airmen to fight and even die to defend our way of life.

Once the conflict passes,——–"we don't trust you folks",—"but thanks for defeating our enemies". Total Hypocrisy and fundamentally wrong.

People have THE RIGHT , if they so choose, to own Firearms.

You cannot legislate against lunacy. A Gun is a piece of manufactured equipment,—-it has no mind of it's own, any more than a pencil does, if a word is misspelled.

Gun crime is commonly read about these days,———–Banning legal ownership "Really works", NOT !!

Change the organic farming system

Currently we have an artificial division between organic and non-organic farmers. Organic farmers pay to be certified that they do not use chemical fertilisers and pesticides. The have to deal with a lot of paperwork and undergo inspections. Instead we should require farms using chemical fertilisers and pesticides to be registered, keep records of how such things are used/disposed of, pay for training in their correct use and disposal.

Make uncensored internet access a legal right.

The government in Finland have just passed laws making broadband internet access a legal right – ISPs must provide a phone line capable of 1mbps speeds to every house in finland.

I believe that we should have a similar law, not only requiring internet access to be offered to everyone by law (not just by promise), but also making it law that the internet should never be censored, as we see in china, australia, and with the digital economy act, here.

Repealing the digital economy act, and introducing laws enshrining internet connections as a right, would be the first steps in acheiving this.

Spent convictions table and the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act.

The whole matter of spent convictions, their retention on CRB and police files and the obligation for offenders to disclose them needs urgent review.    Offences should be categorised along with a table of time limits, beyond which those offences are automatically removed from the records.

In particular, concern should be shown about indictments against young people, where the need to rehabilitate carries even greater import.

Sensible rehabilitation must mean sensible rehabilitation …  and the law must be seen as having been enacted in good faith.

Bring back corporal punishment

As there seems to no deterrent to minor criminal acts, as prison usually creates a martyr of anybody who receives a sentence. Bring back the CANE and use it for these types of crimes.

This seems old-fashioned but I never knew of anybody re-offending after receiving strokes from the cane.

Possibly introduce it’s use on a regular basis in prison (monthly), this would stop people from returning to prison. Do away with ASBOS and give the miscreants strokes with the cane- they will not be in such a hurry to re-offend.

Allow doctors to prescribe cannabis.

Recently I had a whiplash injury to my neck which caused me horrendous pain.

I was prescribed a cocktail of anti-inflammatories and pain killers by my GP.

Had I had the first idea where to get some cannabis from in order to help with the extreme discomfort, I would.  Never being a 'druggie', I really didn't have a clue.

Doctors are allowed to prescribe diamorphine for patients which is basically, heroin. They can prescribe opium too.

Why the discrepancy?

I'm not in any way advocating drug use. I merely feel that cannabis does have a place in treating certain medical conditions.

Fines & community service for litter bugs

Please can we raise funds by prosecuting litter louts with fines and making them do community service picking up litter. I am wholly sick of wading ankle deep through the stuff in our local park and on our beaches. There can never be any real sense of community if people do not look after what they have? What is the point of having littering laws and never enforcing them? Either bin the law or use it to good effect. The money raised from prosecuting these people could be used to pay for more "bobbies on the beat."

I want to be able to walk my dog without worrying about whether he'll come home with cut feet (again) from broken bottles.
