The laws which make it illegal for CDs & DVDs containing copyrighted material to be ripped from the physical media to a computer for personal use, regardless of if circumvention of copy protection is required should be repealed, or at least made clear as to why they exist.

Why is this idea important?

If a person has legally purchased a physical copy of an album or a film, they should be allowed to copy it onto their computer without the treat of prosecution. These laws are out of touch with the modern world. In an era where we are encouraged to go digital, these laws prevent just that. Many people already rip CDs for use on personal media players such as iPods, and to have this illegal makes a vast majority of the population criminals.
