All new roads, except new motorways, should have a proper cycle path built along side but not as part of the road. Currently the 'extra' bit which is labelled as 'Cycle path' is expensive as it is built to the same standard as the main road whereas a separate and safe cycle path would be of light construction, cost very little and save lives and add to the health of the nation.

Why is this idea important?

This idea would encourage  safe cycling. Reduce car use and add to the general health of the nation.
