My Wife has a small Chihuahua, smaller than a cat and weighing 4kgs.
We travel around the EU freely but when we need to visit the UK it has to be inoculated in a window of more than 12 hours and less than 24 hours before arrival in the UK.
The French Vets seem to consider this "a nice little earner", and we have been charged anything from €20 to €150. It appears the nearer you are to Calais the more you are charged!

Most French Vets consider it to be unnecessary and another British idiosyncrasy.

The scheme has been extended until 31-Dec 2011.

I think it is time to scrap it.

Why is this idea important?

The Coalition wants to save money, and the Pet Travel Scheme seems a good candidate. Most Countries in the EU don't have any controls on Pet Travel.

In the last ten years there has been no outbreak of disease in EU pets. So why are we so paranoid?

So now is a good time to scrap the scheme and save some of the UK Tax Payer's money.
