The independent and impartial coverage of news and current events is crucial in any democratic society and should be available to all at low cost. The broadcasting of entertainment and sports programmes is irrelevant to this end and it pushes up the licence fee. Furthermore, some BBC programmes that come broadly under the area of entertainment have in recent times been seen as trivial and of questionable quality. Programmes in these areas are now available from other broadcasters and people could choose to view them according to their interests.
Limit the BBC to the independent and impartial coverage of news and current events, leaving entertainment and sports to other broadcasters.
