This change would reduce spurious employment tribunal claims and thereby save public monies for processing claims and also save business from having to deal with and arrange defences for a significant number of claims. As government is itself a significant employer there would be substantial public sector savings as well as a reduction in bureaucracy for all employers
Although it is important that employees and former employees have easy access to Employment Tribunals a change should be made to require applicants to pay a deposit that wouldl be refunded in the event that their claim succeeds. This would be similar to the requirement for a deposit for claims before a small claims court.
