At present the role of jobcentres seems to be: the provision of information about approved, permanent full-time work and the provision of statistics.
In the past jobcentres could help employers/employees looking for temporary workers/work.
To quote one example (very common in rural UK where people often earn their living in more than one way) a photographer who also does removals, needs, from time to time, extra help with very little notice.
On occasion, if extra help cannot be found, the photographer/removals person has to turn down work.
The jobcentre will not accept details of this prospective employer's requirements.
