Due to health and safety it is currently almost impossible for school children to have work experience in a factory. This means that manufacturing is kept hidden away from schools at a key point when young people are considering their future.
The workers in the factory also suffer from not being in touch with the energy of the next generation (frequently their own children and children of friends).
Factories need to be opened up to young people as they are not dangerous places for grease monkeys.
Why is this idea important?
Industry and education work well together if given a chance. Restricting factory work to over 18s is holding everything back. The young people do not even know what careers people enjoy in industry and so go for soft subjects unaware of the real worthwhile world of making things.
Factories need revitalising with young people.
