This will have benefits for the environment, as there will be less car use, and it will ease congestion. Furthermore, it will encourage people to walk and use their bike more, which improves their health and subjsequently reduces the strain on the NHS.
In order to encourage people to use their car less, and instead choose to walk or use their bike or public transport…
1. Make car tax subject to change. If your mileage is shown to be less than a certain amount, then the car owner may be refunded some of their car tax…as they have been on the road less. But if your mileage is shown to be above a certain amount, then the car owner may be liable to pay more car tax…as they have been on the road more.
2. Improve public transport…control price increases on trains and buses, and provide more bus routes, so that those in rural areas have access to these services too.
