There is no compulsion for schools to demand CRB checks on a one off visitor to a school – such as writers. For schools to jump the gun in this way and insist on the certificate, is putting an unacceptable obstacle in the way of writers wishing to make the visits, and children having the most incredible opportunity to see and work with actively, creative artists and writers.

Schools are already observing the good practise of never leaving a one-off visitor alone with a class, if only for disciplinary reasons, and this is a requirement which most authors and visitors would request and expect anyway.

Why is this idea important?

Even a one off visit from a writer or artist can have a life-changing effect on a child.
