Maintained status should be removed from all faith schools.  It is offensive to a great many taxpayers that they should be subsidising the religious and cultural separation of our children in school.  Have politicians not learnt anything from Northern Ireland et al?

Why is this idea important?

If the government truly wants us to live in a multi-ethnic society at peace with itself, it should not be endorsing sectarianism at public expense.

By withdrawing maintained status over a period of two years – three maximum, the vast sums of money saved could be reinvested in other education projects (e.g., the Building Schools for the Future programme) and/or help to reduce government indebtedness.
