Because so many homeowners across the country face the uncertainty that they could be hit with huge bills for the repair of churches that are nothing to do with them, simply because where they have chosen to live was linked in medieval times to a church. Two cases in 2007 show that this is still a real possibility blighting the lives of innocent homeowners.
Re: Chancel Repairs Act 1932. Although provision has been made to partially end this farce in 2013 if the church hasn't registered an interest in your property, this still leaves huge chunks of the country facing uncertainty until that date, and indeed after it if an interest has been registered. The chancel repair liability on homeowners dates back to medieval times and it is utterly ridiculous that homeowners can still be subject to such measures. Please repeal it!
