I think it is time to rid of the 16 hour rule with regards to the length of time you are allowed to do in training or volunteering whilst claiming JSA benefits. This will actually encourage people to do more with regards to their unemployment situation. I would also would like to see the practice of 'signing on' abolished in order to allow more time for people to look for work, to be replaced with a 3 monthly review with a more positive approach towards employment opportunities.

Why is this idea important?

I feel that the current system with regards to the experience of being unemployed is one of the loss of self-worth, discourages volunteering and actually in many cases, the cause of serious mental health issues (esp. after a long period of being out of work). We need to change the way we look at unemployment.
