Electric bikes are popular but their restricted range is a problem. If the crushing costly legal requirements were repealed on simple motorised cycles restricted to 20mph. Their use in towns would soar, saving hugely on emissions, travelling time, and congestion.
Why not relax the requirements for tax and MOT etc. on motorised bicycles. Currently an electric cycle can be used on the road without these formalities whereas a bicycle with a tiny clip-on engine going no faster than the electric one has to be encumbered with number plates etc.
