Surely, one CRB check annually should allow me to work with all vulnerable groups or it makes the checks seem pointless.

Why is this idea important?

I am a "Befriender" for lonely old people, the mother of a Cub Scout where I help out, helper in a toddler group and maybe helper in a new youth group. For all these I have had to have separate CRB checks involving vast expenditure on the organisations' behalf and the expenditure of hours of time for many people, paid and unpaid. Despite all this, I cannot watch the two fostered boys living next door  for five minutes – as this requires it's own CRB check.

This seems ridiculous, wasteful and I believe, puts off many willing and able volunteers.
