Although this government open forum is a good idea, it is restrictive in terms of its general categories for ideas to be input. As such I have just decided to put this idea into this category even though it doest really fit in here.

We recognise that there are certain skills shortages within the UK, i.e. medicine , engineering etc. The government should consider giving incentives to students who want to take university courses that would address key skills shortages. i would propose that students who take such degrees would be paid an amount to do so. Perhaps paid £100 per week tax free. Obviously part of the deal would be a committment to work in the UK for a certain period of time. Also such students progress would be closely monitored to make sure they are pulling their weight.

Why is this idea important?

This would hopefully address certain skills shortages within the UK and reduce our reliance upon immigrants to fill these skills shortages.
