My idea is important because every target detracts from patient care, it provides no benefit to patient care. Staff spend hour after hour recording information instead of seeing patients. Patients don't care how many of them have their ethnicity recorded or whether they are part of a home treatment target. What they care about is recieving a good standard of care, and feeling valued in the process. Start to trust staff that they are doing a good job, and wipe out all of this performance and information nonscense that had damaged the NHS for the past 10 years.
The NHS is crippled by targets. We submit 700+ inidcators back to the CQC, as well as hundreds of monthly targets back to the PCT/SHA. The NHS employs 1000's of staff, the PCT/SHA/CQC 1000's more just to monitor and interpret information coming back from services. It's time to stop.
