The Abortion Act of 1967 should be repealed or at least heavily amended so that the rights of the unborn are protected against the practice of abortion. Specifically, a new/amended law should ensure that an unborn child is guaranteed the right to survive from the moment of conception except in some very limited circumstances (such as if the mother's life is at serious risk).

Why is this idea important?

This idea is important because every working day 500 abortions occur. This is tantamount to the murder of 500 people every day. There is no morally important reason why an unborn child should have the fundamental right to life completely denied. The current 24-week limit is arbitrary from a moral point-of-view, conception is the only logical point to set the limit. The Abortion Act of 1967 was not intended to produce the consequences that it has, but now it is time for a major rethink.
