The idea is important because it wastes our money. China is on the way to becoming the biggest manufacturer in the world (it is now second to the U.S.A.) and India is not far behind.
It is silly that our foreign aid programme contributes money to these countries – firstly, they don't need it; secondly we do and lastly it is pretty demeaning to these countries to suppose that they need aid from a foreign country.
It is further important that when we do contribute foreign aid for a country really in need that we are able to ensure that it goes where it is needed. If the recipient countries cannot, or will not, allow us to track the cash we should cancel the gift.
