Secondary schools are currently being allowed to set up their own sixth form in a location where adequate provision already exists and there is no further demand.  Many school sixth forms are very small and cannot offer wide choice of curricula for students.

 

Some large provision that already exists is in the form of and stand-alone sixth form college or/and a sixth form allied to an FE college.  Where this exists, they should be be encoraged/allowed to merge for more efficiencies and even greater flexibility of offer to students.
