Reduce traffic and pollution, introduce ‘local jobs for local people law’
The Government should introduce regulations to ensure that Companies give greater priority to employing people who live local to the place of work (when candidates are very closely or equally matched, the job applicant from the local area should get priority).
Why does this idea matter?
This would make it feasible for workers to walk, cycle, use public transport or drive a shorter journey to work, thus reducing the volume of traffic on our roads and reducing air pollution and carbon emissions. In the days of the mills and pits, when Britain had more industry, there was less traffic on the roads, partly because people lived near to their workplace and therefore didn’t need cars. Our roads are heavily congested because people are being forced to travel further to work.
