removal of higher sentences for 'hate' crimes

Why is this idea important?

Such higher sentences where the crime has been motivated by 'hate', that is what the previous Labour government has decided to be hate, is fundamentally unfair and creates inequality under the law. The motive should not be the issue in sentencing, only to ascertain whether the defendant actually committed the crime or not.
