Remove fuel benefits to the rich
Means test winter fuel allowance.
Why does this idea matter?
The baby boomers are turning 60 en masse and many of this selfish generation are greedily topping up their winter wine cellars on winter fuel allowances.
The UK baby boomers hold 80% of the UK's wealth and bought 80% of all top of the range cars, 80% of cruises and 50% of skincare products.1 As a group, they are the healthiest, and wealthiest generation of all time and they’re about to start drawing on the last of the cushy pension deals.
Many of them will live for another 40 years and will spend more lives retired than they have working. Paying utilities for the richest amongst them should not fall to the penniless generations behind them.
In 2008 boomers enjoying life in sunny Spain pocketed £10 million in winter fuel payments.
