An unintended consequence of a regulation that requires all "garden structures" over 30cm tall, means that tree houses require planning permission. I have been told (by a council worker responsible for managing this) that this regulation was designed to prevent the over-use of decking within a garden and it was not designed to regulate the construction of tree houses at all. If the regulation was worded more accurately i.e. "over 30cm and below 50cm" this would not be an issue.

A piece of play equipment for the use of small children in a PRIVATE garden should not need to be regulated by a public body. Do you want to come and inspect my paddling pool too? Or the wendy house?

Why is this idea important?
