We should be encouraging people to use their cars less. For some like the elderly, a car is understandably a vital expression of their independence yet they are required to pay just as much for their annual road tax as someone who drives a lot.
By repealing the annual road tax and placing the tax on petrol instead this would reward low mileage drivers and those who use their cars sensibly but weigh appropriately on those who waste petrol and take unnecessary journeys. As a nation we should understand that green taxes are not necessarily a bad thing and that those who pollute more should pay more.
