Because playgroup leaders are very low paid and work part-time, they could never afford to invest in a degree given the expected level income associated with this post. If this regulation goes ahead playgroups will close.

Why is this idea important?

Many playgroups are running by dedicated individuals in small communities like ours – regulation like this makes what is a semi-voluntary service impossible to deliver. And anyway is totally unnecessary as the current requirements are sufficient. This regulation would not only lead to closure of local services and the community networks that they encourage but would severly limit parents options  for pre-school education.
