Repeal the regulation that results in lifts using double the energy necessary
Repeal the current regulations which requires all modern lifts to return to the ground floor, every time they are used.
Why does this idea matter?
Because lifts have to do a return journey as a result of this regulation, it follows that they use double the energy. A 50% reduction in energy consumption on all the lifts installed in recent years would make a significant contribution to the UK's carbon footprint target. The reason for the regulation is said to be that if there was a fire then the lift would already be at the ground floor and could not be used but there are simpler and more energy efficient ways of ensuring the lift cannot be used in the rare event of a fire.
