Our Justice system is built on the premise that a person should be presumed to be innocent until proven guilty. This is because it is not always possible to prove innocence. The current law allows for the conviction of those who are genuninely innocent. This is not compatible with the idea of justice.
Currently, the police are able to secure a conviction of the owner of a car photographed committing an offence even if the owner was not driving the car at the time. If the owner cannot prove who was driving, the owner get the conviction. Justice demands that only the guilty are punished. People should be presumed to be innocent until proven guilty, not assumed to be guilty unless they can prove otherwise.
