Employed people who also undertake private work should only have to pay student loan fees back  thorough one payment method only and not twice through salary and self assessed employment.

Why is this idea important?

Although student loan fees are deducted from my salary on a monthly basis, I also have to pay a second payment direct to the tax man. This is because I completed a self assessment tax return form for some additional private work I did marking exams. When I queried why I had to pay twice, I was told the Government can opt to take payments out of one or both. I was informed you can be taken to court if you do not comply.

This method of repayment is very unfair and leads to considerable hardship for some people. In addition I will have overpaid my student loan but cannot claim the money back from the student loan company until the end of the  financial year.
