The whole system of PFI should be scrapped and, if necessary, legislation brought in to end the existing contracts.

Why is this idea important?

PFI was a political trick by the previous administration to remove billions of pounds of spending off the public finances.  Whilst the theory may have been sound, the reality is that the "initiative" will cost the public purse many times more than if the Government simply opted to build and maintain things like school and hospitals themselves.
