It is about time to scrap the Supporting People Programme and all the bureaucracy associated with it.

Why is this idea important?

The Supporting People Programme was an ideological decision, based on transferring financial responsibility from central to local government.

There is a massive duplication of information required by the contract – especially because social services usually require similar information.

Now that the money is no longer ring-fenced, local authorities can use the money flexibly. However, the cost of administering the programme diverts money that can be used for the direct provision of services.
