Repeal the retrospective nature of the legislation.

Why is this idea important?

Retrospective legislation is an affront to civil liberties and natural justice.

The Law Society described this legislation as “wrong in principle”. The Chartered Institute of Taxation said it was “extreme” and “unjustified”. Even Parliament’s own Human Rights Committee could find no justification for it being retrospective.

In his closing remarks during the debate on Section 58, Treasury Minister David Gauke said at the time “I am more convinced than ever that the retrospective nature of the clause is unacceptable”.
