Why is this idea important?

 

I agree with work permits in principle but in practice it can take so long to obtain them in England that either the work available has disappeared, or children do the work knowing they are not 'legal'.  

Subsequently, if many people are applying for a job and an employer eventually decides to choose between two candidates, the successful candidate could be chosen because their cv includes experience of paid work.  The other candidate may also have done paid work but is afraid to put that in writing.

So, the system designed to protect children could hinder their career prospects.
