Remove Care Commission remit for dentistry  and allow us to self regulate – self regulation has worked pretty well for decades. The time , money and effort expended in preparation for the care commission regulations would be better used treating patients – and it would be more cost effective for the NHS.

Why is this idea important?

Dentistry is already inspected and regulated by several bodies including the GDC, local PCT's, vocational training authorities etc. The care commision is another unecessary step increasing the burden of paperwork and red tape and COST. Current estimates are £5000 for a small practice to register. NHS practices canot afford this and will be forced to consider conversion to private practice if this goes ahead. Surely dentists are best to be allowed to get on treating patients rather than engaging with futile box ticking exercises.
