Stop paying lots of individual benefits (such as tax credits, etc.) and just reduce tax accordingly.

This would save administration costs in having to calculate and administer benefits and rebates.

Why is this idea important?

This would save administration costs in having to calculate and administer benefits and rebates.

For example, despite the fact that I am married and live at the same address as my husband we recieve two letters each year about tax credits, the letters are identical.  Firstly, just one letter could be sent to both of us.  Secondly, if the tax was reduced at source there would be no need for all of the administration and costly postage related to the credits.

There are lots of other benefits which could also be scrapped by adjusting tax at source in the same way.
